Wealth Health About
The firm

Wealth Health. Tauranga, since 2014.

A small independent financial advice firm started by an ex-BNZ Private Banker who had seen what was happening on the other side of the desk and wanted no further part in it.

Founding story

Kitchen table to FAP licence.

Craig Coupland joined ANZ in 2000 as a twenty-two-year-old who, on his own description, knew nothing. Fourteen years and three banks later, in 2014, he and his wife Fiona started Wealth Health out of their kitchen in Papamoa. The story between those two dates is the reason the firm exists.

By 2007 Craig had worked his way up to BNZ Private Banker, the closest a bank role gets to being a real adviser. He was managing high-net-worth Bay of Plenty clients, structuring their lending, their KiwiSaver, their insurance and their investments. The role gave him a clear view of two things at once: how Kiwi households actually use money, and how banks make their money out of how Kiwi households use money.

It was the second view that wore him down. Clients told they could not refinance when they could. Households left in conservative KiwiSaver funds well into their thirties because nobody wanted to do the paperwork. Insurance policies sold by people who had never read a claim form. After a few years of it, Craig says, you cannot unsee it.

So in 2014 he resigned. He and Fiona set up Wealth Health Limited as an independent NZ-owned firm at the kitchen table, with one adviser, no bank, no product bias, and the brief to give advice across all four money pillars under one roof. The first clients were ex-BNZ colleagues, ex-BNZ customers, and friends-of-friends. Twelve years on, the firm runs almost entirely on referrals from the same network.

The name

Why "wealthhealth"?

Most NZ financial firms are named after their founder, a place, or a metaphor that sounds important. Craig wanted a name that said exactly what the work was: looking after the health of a household's money. Not growing it for its own sake, not chasing returns, not selling product. Health.

The logo carries the same idea. The mark above the wordmark is a stylised electrocardiogram trace (the pulse) with a small heart shape sitting inside the upward spike, and a tidy W and H sitting underneath the line. The pulse is the financial picture. The heart is the family inside it. The W and H are doing the underwriting work. The whole thing renders in a single colour, so it works equally well on a business card, an FMA disclosure document, or the side of a coffee cup.

The wordmark is set lowercase, single word: wealthhealth. Not Wealth Health Inc, not Wealth Health Advisory Group. Lowercase, one word, no capitals. The intent is the same as the work: to take the seriousness out of the surface so the seriousness can sit in the substance.

The team

Four people, twelve years.

Craig leads the advice. Fiona keeps the firm running. Jared takes the mortgage overflow. Caro handles the client experience. Final team-page profiles to be reviewed by each member before publish.
